ABOUT YOU

Name: Kabby
Are you 18 or over?: Yep.
Other characters played: None

CHARACTER

Name: 5
Canon: 9
Age: Probably just a few months, if even that, physically. He's emotionally an adult, having the soul of one, but a younger adult than 1 or 2, for example, and older than 3 or 4.
History: In an alternate version of Earth, a brilliant scientist is hired to make a machine that, as far as my understanding is, becomes to0 self-aware. It exists to create other machines, and has all of the scientist's brains but none of his humanity. So... Yes, eventually it resists human control by creating robots to destroy humanity. A war starts, everything is in more and more ruin. The scientists starts creating the dolls and putting parts of his soul into them, so humanity will survive the inevitable robotic victory, in a sense. Eventually, the machines gas the whole planet to death.

The movie starts with 9 waking up to a ruined world, and he goes out to explore. 2 finds him, but they are soon attacked by a robot called "The Beast". It takes 2 and leaves 9 stranded and injured. 5 is looking through a spyglass, and finds and fixes up 9, who reveals that 2 is still alive. They're intruded on by the dolls' leader, 1, and his muscle, 8. 1 is described as being "blinded by fear" by 9, and it's really a perfect description. He's all about staying safe and self-preservation and at all costs.

1 basically tells 9 that he's going to endanger them all if they look for 2, but 9 goes anyway and gets 5 to come with him. They find 2, and 9 is also reunited with a strange device that he found upon first awaking. 2 is still alive when they get to him, but The Beast is about and attacks the group before being destroyed by 7, who was believed to be dead. Everyone survives, and during the course of the battle 9 notices that THe Beast is trying to put the device into a machine. So 9 has the BRILIANT IDEA to do what the evil machine was trying to do, and that awakens The Fabrication Machine; the scientist's original creation still intent on destorying any remains of humanity. 2 tries to stop 9, but ends up having his soul literally pulled out of him and into the device. The other three dolls escape.

7 takes the boys to see the twins, 3 and 4, who explain the history of the world to 9. Meanwhile, The Fabrication Machine starts creating more machines to destroy the remaining bits of human soul once again. When 9 is trying to explain the device, which the twins know nothing about, 5 recognizes it as something 6 always draws... Back with 1 and 8. So 5 and 9 sneak back there, and get caught by 8, yelled at by 1... But then 6 comes out of hiding and starts to try to guide 9 by telling him to "go back to the source". (The source of their life; the scientist.) However, things don't get far when one of the new machines, the Winged Beast, attacks the sanctuary where 1 and co. have been, but they all escape, reunite with 7, and she takes them back to the library where the twins are.

Another new machine, The Seamstress, who sew the dolls into an immobile tangle and then takes them to have their souls taken, appears on the scene. Using 2's shell of a 'body' to a hypnotic effect, it kidnaps 8 and later 1. 1 is freed by the group, but 7 is taken in the proccess. Also, 2's body is recovered and given a funeral.

They go back to the place where The Fabrication Machine and The Seamstress are, and 9 says he has to go in alone so that 5 can destroy the building -- and thus The Fabrication Machine -- if 9 doesn't make it out with 7 and 8. 9 does manage to save 7, but not 8. Together, 7 and 9 destroy The Seamstress while 5 comes up with a plan to blow up the building. 1 almost blows the building up too early out of fear, but 5 finds some guts and stops him. Eventually, 7 and 9 make it out and the other remaining dolls set 5's plan in motion. They believe that their problems are now over, for it seems The Fabrication Machine has been destroyed, and they all -- except 1 -- celebrate in one of... Two truly happy scenes in the whole movie.

Here is a Wiki link, too!

Point in canon: During the 'Over the Rainbow' scene, as he looks through the box of records.
Window Location: Within the box of records!
Universe: Here's a start!
Simply put, we're taking about a post-apocalyptic wasteland; a world that was taken over by robots. What's left is mostly artificial objects, a great deal of which is broken. The occasional human body can be found, but that's all that remains of organic life.
Notable locations:
The Cathedral
The Library
Abilities: He's highly inventive, resourceful, and intelligent.
Possessions: None
Personality: 5 starts out as a rule-follower; nervous and fearful. However, his loyalty to those he cares about overcomes that quickly; though he remains anxious and scared, he faces his fears to help his friends. In fact, sometimes he gets so caught up in this that he does what he accuses 2 and 9 of; he "forget[s] to remember to be scared". (This is shown when he runs after the map, though he quickly bounces back to being afraid after.). Even when being brave, though, or happy, he still keeps up his general persona of being a shy little thing.

5 is shown, particularly with 2, to be a very loving, sweet soul, with an attachment to 2 that is fairly ambigous and could be seen as friendly, romantic, or even a son-to-father bond. Regardless of the exact nature, he cares for him quite deeply; he comes to care for 9 quite a bit as well and is clearly very happy to see 7, 3, and 4 again. On the other hand, he is seemingly willing to leave 7 behind when The Fabrication Machine seems to have her, speaking once again to his cowardice, even if this leaving people behind habit is one he seems to eventually break.

5 is shown to be, like most of the nine, highly intelligent, resourceful, and creative. It is implied he made a number of things working with 2, and he fixes 9 up after a scuffle. Unlike the others, he is very trusting, sometimes when he shouldn't be -- Most notably, his faith in 1. He's also very emotional; in hysterics with 9 after 2's soul is taken. (Although, considering what happened, it's quite understandable.) Some extra-canon official 'writings of the Scientist' note that 5 is the "purest creation to date" at the point when he is given life.

Also notable is that 5 is more or less fine with having one eye. He says it helps him focus on a single thing at a time.

Ultimately, all of 5's growth can be attributed to 9. 5 clearly has a very special bond with him, and 5 is not only inspired by 9's heroism, but he also wants to look out for 9 and keep him from suffering the same fate 2 did. 9 also points out to 5 that 2 would be brave for him, and wanting to do 2 -- and later, 2's memory -- proud, 5 tries to be stronger and more courageous.

Thread Sample: In the game Ink City, where animated characters need their ink to survive, 5 is reunited with a 6 pulled from after 5's death.

Prose Sample: It felt like 2 had been gone for so long. 5 didn't know how many days had passed; not that it had gotten to the point where he'd lost track. It just... It had hurt, counting the days, and eventually 5 had realized he was only making himself depressed. It certainly hadn't brought 2 back. Besides, 1 had noticed his tallies on the wall and gotten angry. To their leader, they might as well have seen 2 die. Once you left, you didn't come back, 1 believed. And 1 was in charge. He seemed to be so certain of so much that 5 tended to believe him... Usually. Not in this case, though. He didn't want to believe 2 was gone. It seemed wrong to give up on 2 when 2 had never given up on him; not even when he probably should have: When battle between man and machine had left him broken and ready to die.

...So the least 5 could do for him was look once again. He approached the spyglass... The beloved spyglass; the first invention he and 2 had worked on together. He touched it reverently, getting lost in memory for a moment before he placed his remaining eye against the lens. "Nothing new," he said quietly to himself. Winds were kicking up dust, giving a grainy effect to his view of the dead, empty world out there. Yes, just the usual... Until it wasn't just that. There was a figure; not 2, but undeniably one of them. And it --- he or she -- was collapsing. 5 was shocked as he pulled away from the spyglass.... But he knew what he had to do. Despite what 1 would say; despite his fear.... He had to go help them. It's what 2 would have wanted.

He was almost out of the cathedral when something reached out and touched his shoulder. 5 turned to see 6, smeared with ink as always and looking at him with curiosity and concern. "Oh... 6." 5 knew that, even if 6's mind wasn't all there, his heart was. He wouldn't be getting away while 6 was worried about him. And... That made him smile, despite the situation. It meant so  much to him to still have someone there who treated him with caring and kindness. 5's constant thinking and 6's... Well, madness, it had to be said... It made them so different. And yet 5 enjoyed his company. They were close.

"I have to go, 6. I'll be back, I promise. Don't tell 1." If 1 found out... Well, that was a terrifying thought. Who knew what he'd have 8 do to 5?

 "Go?" 6 echoed.

"I.... I saw something out there. Someone."

For a moment, 6's whole posture changed. He seemed alight with hope, and 5 knew why. Their creator... He'd been a good man. They didn't know what had happened to him, but they all missed him -- Even 1, 5 suspected, despite his hatred of humans. Then again, 5 had been wrong before. Regardless... "No. One of us. Not... Not 2 or 7 or the twins. Someone new."

6 made a little sound of surprise before running back into hiding, leaving 5 confused. Did 6 need to show him something? But it would probably be a drawing 5 wouldn't understand. And there was not time to waste. Looking around one last time, 5 hoped with all his might that he'd return.

"Alright. I can do this."

And he was off.

Plans: NOT DYING WOULD BE GOOD. What I mean by that is, 5 won't be going back home too quickly. I want to play it out long enough that he won't die if he goes back. He will probably stay put for a while after waking up, confused and nervous and lonely, but I do want him to do some exploring eventually.

Notes: None

DÆMON

Name: Svy (Technically, her name is Zwei, the German word for 'two', but 5 only knows the name by how it is pronounced.)
Sex: Female
Form: Ovenbird
Additional notes: Since 5 only has 1/9 of a human soul, his daemon is incomplete. In some ways, she is similar to 6 -- She has trouble speaking complete ideas. She's also illiterate.
Why this form:
-Ovenbirds, like 5, are builders, making their nests out of clay and grass.
-Ovenbird are wary by nature, but have become comfortable around humans over the years; 5 is nervous but grows to be more brave throughout the course of the movie.
-Ovenbird are easily unnoticed, matching 5's timid nature.
